The Commonwealth Grenada St George’s University Scholarship Programme

The Commonwealth Grenada St George’s University Scholarship Programme

Applications are invited from students from Commonwealth countries and universities for 75 full tuition scholarships as part of the Commonwealth Grenada St George’s University Scholarship Programme. It is a condition of the programme that graduates from developing countries and small states must return to work in their countries of origin – particularly where their living and travel expenses have been covered by sponsoring organisations.

The scholarships cover both graduate and undergraduate degree programmes offered at St. George's University, Grenada, West Indies. They are offered to:

  • 25 students seeking a Master of Business Administration (MBA) – 2 years;
  • 25 for Masters of Public Health (MPH) – 1 year;
  • 10 for arts and sciences degrees (SAS) – 4 years;
  • 10 studying veterinary medicine (DVM) – 4 years (commencing with basic veterinary); 5 years (commencing with a pre-veterinary year);
  • 5 in the School of Medicine (MD) – 4 years (commencing with basic medicine); 5 years (commencing with a pre-medical year)

Applicants will have up to 15 April to be accepted for the August 2007 class. The deadline for students accepted for the January 2008 class will be September 2007. This programme is expected to run until the end of 2008.

The scholarships will be made available for all countries of the Commonwealth but preference will be given to students from developing countries and small states, particularly for the MBAs, MPHs, and arts and sciences awards. A Commonwealth-Grenada Scholarship Committee has been established by the University to award the scholarships which will be judged on academic excellence, financial need and the student’s commitment to the chosen discipline. While the US$4 million scholarship programme will fully fund tuition, students will require separate support for living and travel expenses, estimated (on average) at US$15,000 a year. The corporate sector is being approached to help defray these costs.

Application forms have been posted on the St George’s University website www.sgu.edu (Financial Aid under “Future Students”). All applications must be accompanied by a 500 word statement – looking back on the impact of the scholarship on the scholar’s life, at 70 years of age, and the difference that this has made to his or her community and country.

To be eligible for consideration, an admissions application form, as well as a scholarship application form and the requisite essay must be completed by a qualified Commonwealth candidate.
