[USA] The American Express Scholarship Competition
Overview
Founded by American Express in 1994, this program is designed specifically for current lodging employees and their dependents. Endowed with more than $500,000, the fund has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to 178 students.
Eligibility Criteria
- Enrolled full- or part-time.
- Must be working a minimum of 20 hours per week at a AH&LA member hotel with at least 12 months' hotel experience OR be a dependent of a qualified employee and have past employment in some capacity in the hospitality industry.
If you need help confirming your hotel's AH&LA membership, email Crystal Hammond, manager of the Foundation's programs, at chammond@ahlef.org. Include the full/formal name of the hotel with which you're affiliated, complete mailing address, and name of general manager.
Scholarship Awards
Baccalaureate Majors - $2,000 full-time enrollment; or $1,000 part-time
Associate Majors - $1,000 full-time enrollment; or $500 part-timeDo not apply for 2008 academic scholarship or attempt to edit an existing 2007 academic scholarship. The Foundation will not review any academic scholarships reviewed between May 2 - December 31. If you are interested in applying for 2008 scholarship, you must do after January 1, 2008.
Application Process
American Express Scholarships are Self Nominated which means students do not have to attending particular school or be nominated by their respective schools. Applicants must complete all sections of the AH&LEF Scholarship Application.Recent Recipients
