Perfect for Your Busy Life
You face many challenges—working full-time, caring for your family—all the while trying to further your education. Going to a traditional university campus just may not work with your schedule or be accessible. WGU is a unique, regionally accredited university that grants degrees and certificates based completely on competencies—your ability to demonstrate your skills and knowledge on a series of assessments carefully selected to measure your knowledge of a field of study—rather than through required courses.

* Obtain your degree completely online—from any location
* Use the knowledge you gained from prior work, academic, or life experience through assessments and move through your degree program more quickly
* Avoid taking courses in areas you've already mastered
* Study at a time and place convenient to you

About the Scholarship
A WGU Scholarship for Effective ELL/ESL Educators is valued up to $5,000. The scholarship will be credited to the recipient's account at the rate of $1,000 per six-month term for up to five terms. Although WGU's competency-based model makes it possible for students to complete the requirements of their programs in less than two and a half years, the scholarship awards are based on a reasonable experience of five six-month terms to complete a program. The actual time to complete the program will depend on the incoming student's prior experience, academic background, and time commitment to studying.

Before monies are distributed, the scholarship recipient must read the WGU Student Handbook and agree to and understand the academic progress, tuition and refund policies. The student will also be required to sign a WGU Scholarship Agreement before monies will be awarded. The student must also meet the university's Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements to maintain scholarship eligibility.

Tuition for a six-month term is $2,790, less the $1,000 per term scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements

* Must have a bachelor's degree and a teaching license
* Submit official transcripts of all prior college work
* Complete an application
* Satisfactorily complete the WGU Readiness Assessment
* Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
* Be officially admitted to WGU
* Interview with a WGU Scholarship Counselor or Enrollment Counselor prior to the award decision.

Note: This is a new scholarship program designed to expand access to teacher education programs for English Language Learning/English as a Second Language teachers. Students currently enrolled in WGU degree programs are not eligible.

Financial Aid is Also Available
You may choose to pay for the remaining portion of your degree through federal financial aid (subject to your eligibility). Pell Grants, which do not have to be repaid, are granted based upon financial need. Federal Direct Student Loans are available to all students. Subsidized loans, which are dependent on financial need, reduce the interest due on the loans.
